The Hairy Coo Shop is a small independent shop in the beautiful surroundings of the Scottish Highlands offering in a range of scottish-made gifts and accessories.

It is the latest addition at Ralia Café – sometimes referred to as the “Gateway to the Highlands” – just off the A9 at Newtonmore in the Scottish Highlands. Ralia Café has grown from a seed of an idea in 2004 when my husband stopped for a comfort break desperate for a cup of coffee. Ralia is now the favoured stop for travellers looking for great coffee (some say the best on the A9 but we couldn’t possibly comment!) and freshly made soup and sandwiches (crayfish and rocket is renowned!)

Ralia and The Hairy Coo Shop

I decided to open a small, but perfectly formed, gifts and accessories shop in 2013 (originally called The Bothie) determined to portray there is more to Scotland than the Loch Ness Monster! I am passionate about Scotland and I hope the quality of the products which I have sourced reflect this.

In 2014 I took over a small company making Hairy Coos - a range of fun Highland Cows wrapped in hairy mohair wool. They have proved so popular that I decided to re-name my shop after them! Like the name, our collection is unusual and very different and the iconic Highland Cow - or Hairy Coo - is a predominant.

Please do come and visit us or contact us if you would like to arrange to purchase any items.  You can do so by contact me:

The size of the shop may be small but you can be assured of a big Scottish welcome!
